Post 111 mourns the loss of another one of its members. Legionnaire Alan Lee Nagy, age 74, died on December 31, 2020, from mantle cell lymphoma related to his exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam conflict. Alan was from Brown City, Michigan, and was a 1968 graduate of Olivet College, where he played football and wrestled. He earned a degree in Psychology and Physical Education. He was honored with an Alumni Athlete Award and Distinguished Alumni Award from Olivet. Alan furthered his education at Central Michigan University, earning his Masters in Physical Education and Athletic Administration.
Alan met the love of his life, Ellen Hughes Cadden (American Red Cross) while serving as a Specialist 5 in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, March 1970 – March 1971. During his service, Alan earned The Air Medal, The Army Commendation Medal for Valor, The Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. He was immensely proud of his service to his country and was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Conway, SC. Alan and Ellen married in August 1971.
